Summary

Emergent3 (E3) is an emergency response platform built for K-12 schools, giving administrators real-time visibility into staff and student safety the moment an incident happens. But alerting people that something is wrong was never the hard part: knowing who's accounted for, who isn't, and where to focus next was. With Ednition's RosterStream, E3 synced its platform directly to school districts’ student information systems (SIS), turning a manual, clipboard-driven process into a real-time emergency and accountability system. Today, E3 supports approximately 3,500 schools using synced roster data to help administrators respond with confidence when every minute matters.

The Challenge

"The biggest issue in an emergency typically happens within the first five minutes, when it's just chaos. You don't know where people are, you don't know if they're safe, and you don't know if they’ve received the alert," said Cade Huskinson, Director of Marketing at Emergent3. "District admins could check in, but accounting for the students was still a manual process."

It's the kind of chaos school administrators face every time there's an emergency, and it shows up in exactly the moments when speed matters most. E3’s software lets district admins check in during an emergency, but accounting for students was still a manual process of clipboards, radios, and runners crossing campus to relay who was safe.

Without student roster and attendance syncing, E3's platform couldn't answer the two questions that mattered most in a crisis: who is safe, and who still needs to be found.

The Solution

E3 partnered with Ednition to implement RosterStream, Ednition's private-labeled rostering and integration platform, giving E3 the ability to sync student rostering information directly into its application. This means that during an emergency, administrators can account not just for staff, but for the students they're responsible for too. RosterStream enabled E3 to:

"Without the ability to accurately sync rostering and attendance data from the district SIS, you’re literally piecing together information from teachers to identify where students are supposed to be. That’s too error-prone for emergency situations," said Huskinson.

Results & Impact

Counting heads during an emergency used to be an analog problem in a world with no way to sync directly with student rosters and attendance data. With RosterStream, that's changed for E3 and the districts it serves.

District admins, teachers, and first responders now access accurate, timely rostering and attendance data synced directly from the district SIS, which improves coordination with first responders during school emergencies. The old clipboard-and-radio process wasn’t just slow; it was fragile, leaving significant room for error and miscommunication. Schools now have one reliable source of truth for checking students in during an emergency with real-time visibility across the entire building. That same infrastructure also supports secure student reunification, safely matching students to the right parent or guardian during an off-site handoff. And because the integration runs continuously rather than only during a crisis, E3's platform now supports day-to-day safety workflows and operational incidents, not just emergencies.

In Huskinson’s words, "Without Ednition and RosterStream, syncing rostering and attendance data would be a monumental challenge for our business. I don't know if we'd have been able to tackle the challenges of all the data integrations without Ednition."

Handling that volume of sensitive student data, names, ages, guardian relationships means E3 needs to trust its data partner completely. Huskinson said, “Ednition's security-first approach, including SOC 2 Type 2 attestation and ISO/IEC 27001 certification, gave the E3 team trust and confidence in the service, knowing sensitive student data is protected at every step of the sync.”
